Voices in the Village: A Community Open Mic
Hosted by Tobey Sol LaRoche
Join us in sacred space for Voices in the Village, a community open mic for all ages, all backgrounds, and all hearts. This intergenerational, spiritually aligned, and sober event welcomes musicians, poets, storytellers, and creative spirits to gather in the spirit of connection, expression, and healing.
Whether you're stepping up to the mic or coming to listen, this is a space where everyone belongs. For those who wish to share their gifts with a wider audience, the event will be filmed by Montague Community TV for future broadcast.
Raised in a home full of instruments from around the world, Tobey found his voice—both literally and musically—through the djembe, the guitar, and a life steeped in rhythm and song. Over the years, he’s played in bands that moved bodies across New England dance floors and shared his original compositions through groups like Sol & Kiel and The Pinings, known for their rich three-part harmonies. Tobey’s music blends intricate melodies with the heartbeat of his percussive roots, while his lyrics explore love, loss, hope, and the beauty of our shared human journey. A spiritually rooted artist raised in the Bahá'í tradition, Tobey brings depth, warmth, and genuine presence to every gathering—especially as an open mic host beloved in the Valley music scene.
Why Here? Why Music?
The National Spiritual Alliance (TNSA), founded in 1913 in the historic village of Lake Pleasant, believes that music is more than performance—it is a path to spirit. As stated in the TNSA Constitution:
"TNSA objectives shall be the cooperation of individuals and TNSA-chartered Spiritualist Churches in one general 'National Spiritual Alliance' for the benevolent, educational, literary musical, scientific, experimental, religious, and missionary purposes pertaining to the philosophy, phenomena, and the principles of harmonious spiritual advancement."
We are honored to hold this open mic in the heart of our temple, continuing the legacy of music as a sacred act of community and soul expression.
